Yes, you did, actually. If you hadn't meant that, you'd have said "I think 
there's a real issue with the mainstream media covering stories". By 
having the adjective "tech", you lead the reader to believe that you've 
only identified that issues with that sort of story.

Likewise, by using the adjective "mainstream", you're saying that 
non-mainstream media do OK.

If you had actually meant "covering all stories", then I'm glad to have 
clarified your posting.

Am I a journalist? Well, a couple of decades ago, I did a lot of paid 
writing for PC magazines. But I haven't for a long time now. So, you 
decide.
